Can You Hear Silence?
Stop for a moment. What do you hear? I hear the garbage truck just arriving. It is 2:15 p.m. Usually it comes early in the a.m. Now I hear an airplane. We are fifteen minutes from the airport. What's that sound? It's my apple shaped clock just ticking away. What else am I hearing? The computer's hum. What's that sound? Ice cubes dropping into the tray. The last batch of laundry is drying in the dryer. It is amazing all of the sounds you hear when you truly stop to listen. List the sounds you are hearing.

I know when I walked in late at night one night - I heard the crickets chirp so loud it almost hurt my ears!
ReplyDeleteI hear yapping talking heads on CNN, the volume loud for my hard of hearing honey. I hear his rhythmic snoring from his recliner, a car passing by, a voice in my head saying get that article written and quit blogging :)
ReplyDeleteI hear my dog sighing...such an easy life he leads!
ReplyDeleteI, too, hear the TV, Linda! I also hear Vern chewing on his bone, the a/c coming from the air vents, the clickety clackety of my keyboard.
ReplyDeleteThe tv is loud but behind that is the music from my son's room, the a/c. The tv is really too loud. I need to go wrestle the clicker from my husband!
ReplyDeleteI hear the thunder, the faint hum of my computer, the gurgle of my water cooler, the plop of big fat raindrops on my deck flooring--the creak or settling of a floor board, and the soft wheezing of my air conditioner. Oooh! That was fun!
ReplyDeleteHi, Barb -- I wanted to send you a message but can't find your email. Would you please contact me at diannagraveman@gmail.com when you have a chance? Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteMiss your posts. Hope all is well.
ReplyDeleteBarb,Where are you?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm definitely hearing the Silence...of YOU being gone! Have you been traveling the world? Whatever you've been doing, hope it's been something blissful!
