Praying Throughout the Day

I Thessalonians 5:17: Pray without ceasing. I read that verse and wondered, how do you do that? This is what I concluded:

There are many opportunities to pray each day. One day I purposely took notice of my prayer times. The prayers included asking for forgiveness for some ill thought or deed, interceding for family and friends, and telling the Lord just how awesome He is. There were also some personal requests. I did this all throughout the day, no matter where I was.
It seemed that the more I talked to the Lord, the more things He brought to my mind to pray about. Praying throughout the day made me more aware of my surroundings, the people who crossed my path, and the different circumstances I encountered. For example, hearing sirens caused me to ask the Lord to have mercy and grace on all those who would be affected. Another example was giving thanks for a sale price on an item I needed. Seeing a car parked alongside the highway caused me to pray for the owner's finances so he could get the car towed and fixed. Having a poor attitude about an issue caused me to ask Him to forgive me. Finally, seeing evidence of God’s creation gave me a new appreciation for who He is and what He can do. Prayer is simply talking to our Heavenly Father. He longs for our fellowship. That is why we can pray without ceasing.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you that I can come boldly to your throne. Thank you that you desire my fellowship and help me to be aware of your presence all throughout my day. Amen

I saw something on another blog that I thought you might appreciate:

When God leads you to the edge of a cliff, trust in him fully.

One of two things will happen: he will catch you when you fall, or he will teach you how to fly.

  2. Hi Barbara,
Thanks for the inspiring post. And Sue, what a great quote.

My sister Kathleen recently had heart surgery and goes three times a week to cardio-rehab. Yesterday she told me while she is walking on the treadmill or riding the bike she prays, not only to pass the time, but also to thank God that she survived.

  3. Thank you, Donna. I am also glad she survived. It does make one grateful for each moment.
