When I write I usually want the reader to act in some way. Hopefully, the next time you see a penny, you will look at it with more respect and not pass it by.
I found a shiny penny just the other day.
Often in the past I would have looked away.
It is only a penny, someone would say to me.
But it is still money and it’s absolutely free.
The penny is more important to me now.
Every time I find one, I’m sure I’ll say “wow!”
The pennies that I gather will help a roll to fill.
Enough of them together, may pay a sudden bill.
I look at these coins with a new found respect,
Filled with excitement the more I collect.
A penny is still worth one cent, it’s true,
but any amount saved is a smart thing to do.
I know I am the exception, but I don't pass by a penny. Until I am too old to straighten back up after bending down (which might be soon), I stop and pick up a penny when I see one on the ground. However, I wonder how much longer the penny will be around, since it costs 2 cents? three cents? to mint...
