Signs of Our Times

On my way to an appointment, I came to a busy street corner. To my right were about six small signs planted in the grass. Each sign was an advertisement for selling a service such as grass cutting, bug spraying, or child care. The signs were just pieces of cardboard with printing done with black markers. The other signs were for selling different items such as a laptop, washer/dryer, and a dinette set. We are living in tight economic times and people are trying to come up with ways to make some much needed cash. I wonder how many other busy corners are fertile grounds for free advertising.
As I continued on my way I saw signs for garage sales. There seem to be more than usual. Another indicator of our tight economy. One sign really distressed me. It was encouraging people to call a toll-free number to help them prevent foreclosure. Losing one’s home takes on so many different emotions. I feel there are too many scams developing that add more pain rather than offering relief. There is one sign I would love to see one day soon.
Tough Economic Times are Over!

  2. Barb,
I know what you mean. You know it's a sign of the times when you see employess holding signs begging you to drive in for oil changes and or pizzas. I guess you do what you have to. I hope the economy turns around soon.

  3. Hi Barb,
How true. It's especially sad to think of those suffering in these economic times during the holidays.

  4. I would love to see that sign, too, along with "We gave peace a chance, and it's great, so we're sticking with it," and "Racism died on this day:____. May it stay dead forever."
